In 2025, environmental technologies are anticipated to reach a global market volume of 4,400 billion Euros – twice as much as in 2010. The predicted annual growth is more than 5%. Alsace is one of the top regions in France in the field of Cleantech.
France is a key market EuropeIn 2012, environmental technology companies in France generated a turnover of 85 billion Euros with an annual growth rate of 5%. They employ 450,000 people, making France the second most important market in Europe.
The specific focus of the French expertise is on waste and water management. France is Europe’s leading force in generating energy from recycling waste.
Global market leaders in the field of water and waste management, such as Suez, Veolia and Saur are based in Alsace.
CLEANTECH is extremely important to AlsaceDue to Alsace’s geographical proximity to Germany, environmental challenges have gained prominence here.
In Alsace nearly 560 companies are operating in the environmental sector.
More than two thirds of these companies originate from the waste and water management sector.
In addition, several market leaders acclaimed for their expertise in the fields of air treatment and odour neutralization, such as Airépur, Europe Environment and Westrand are also located in the region.
Focus on Water ManagementThe global water management market records an annual growth of 4 to 5% and is expected to exceed the 1,000 billion euro sales mark by 2020.
In France, Alsace is a key player in this sector. Prestigious international companies in the field of measurement and control technology such as Siemens, Sappel, Bürkert, Endress+Hauser, Huber Technologie and Sewerin are now located in the Alsace region.
500 researchers work in the field of water at Alsatian universities and companies, while ENGEES (Ecole Nationale du Génie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg) is training more than 100 engineers per year in water management.
